The Penzberg BRK preparedness has new emergency vehicles. Above all, the voluntary service of local helpers was strengthened. Their work is important and saves valuable time.
Penzberg - A new vehicle was put into service for the on-site helpers (HvO) by the Penzberg standby of the Bavarian Red Cross. This service is important: It is intended to bridge the time until the regular emergency services arrive if the Penzberg ambulance is already tied up differently. In this case, it could take some time until the next ambulance comes - for example from Kochel, Tölz or Bernried, as Oliver Kugel from the BRK emergency department reports. “Time that not every patient has,” as Kugel emphasizes.

The HvO car is manned by volunteers who volunteer in their free time. Or, according to Kugel, “with luck” your employer will release you for these assignments. There were around 90 of these deployments in 2023.

New vehicle offers more space
The Penzberg helpers put the first HvO vehicle, an Opel Corsa, into service in 2011 thanks to an inheritance. However, due to its age, the car had to be retired with 21,900 kilometers on it. The Opel has now been replaced by a Dacia Duster. With 96 kW, this is “appropriately motorized” and offers significantly more space, says BRK man Kugel. This means the equipment – emergency backpack, defibrillator and oxygen – can be stored much better. In addition, material to secure the site now also fits in the car. “Thanks to the stickers and better signaling system, the vehicle is now much more recognizable as an emergency vehicle,” says Kugel.
Also replaced both ambulances
The Penzberg helpers' two ambulances were also replaced. The BRK emergency service has an ambulance as a resource for larger events, which is taken over by the rescue service as a used vehicle. The rescue station's standard ambulance was also replaced by a new vehicle according to current standards - for the first time with air suspension and electrically supported stretcher.
