The weather couldn't have been better. And so on the first day of Animuc, thousands of anime and fantasy fans flocked to Fürstenfeld Monastery.

Fürstenfeldbruck – Since 2009, fans of Japanese pop culture, from anime, manga to comics and cartoons, have been meeting annually on the event forum grounds. And nothing, absolutely nothing, has lost the fascination of the “Animuc” in these 15 years – at least if you look at the number of visitors. A good 3,500 fans had a lot of fun on the first day - and in the sunshine and over 20 degrees they were also in a great mood.

Many of the costumes are self-sewn

Most of them have invested a lot of anticipation in advance, especially in their costumes. “I sewed it for two months,” says Daniela about her costume, a dragon, colorful, bright and imaginatively designed. It is my own creation and not based on a fantasy character like most costumes - but at least Daniela was inspired by the video game series “Spyro”.

She likes everything that goes in the direction of fantasy, says the 28-year-old, who now lives in Augsburg but comes from Eichenau. The enthusiasm for the “Animuc” also developed from there. “I don’t remember exactly when I was here for the first time, but it was many years ago.” It’s always fascinating how many people have this great hobby.

Some are there for the first time

Carolin from Windach and Amelie from Landsberg know exactly that they appeared at the “Animuc” for the first time in 2015. “We were eleven and twelve years old then.” Since then, the two of them, who came to the monastery grounds as fairies, have enjoyed one thing in particular: “Seeing and being seen.” They want to show off what they have created themselves.

“You enjoy the admiring looks a little,” admits Carolin, and her friend nods enthusiastically. This starts with the arrival. “Maybe someone will ask if we have any leftovers from the carnival.” But most people would marvel at the costumes.

Good mood, lots of people, and great weather – for Tyra and her four friends these were three good reasons to set off from Munich to Fürstenfeldbruck. “We are here for the first time and have decided to really immerse ourselves.” With so many people, this will be wonderfully possible, says the 18-year-old and is looking forward to many great hours on the monastery grounds with her friends of the same age.

Before you go onto the premises, there is a weapons check

Veronika and her boyfriend Jan will spend all three days on the site. “We come from Ansbach, so it has to be worth it.” The 25-year-old, who comes from the district, infected her companion with her enthusiasm for imaginative costumes. And the two of them have enough imagination: they have collected a lot of ideas from computer games. “But in the end it was our own ideas,” says Jan. That also applies to his plastic sword. “It’s suitable for the S-Bahn,” the 27-year-old answers the safety question at the entrance.

Because he also had to go through the so-called weapons check. “That sounds dramatic,” admits Antonia, who as a helper on the “Animuc” is responsible for ensuring that nothing happens to the souvenirs. But you rarely have to actually take someone's sword or something similar. This happens maybe once or twice a day.
