Teachers at the school campus in Coulommiers walked off the job this Thursday. They denounce unsanitary buildings and regular insecurity

Of the 156 teachers who were supposed to teach this Thursday, 98 went on strike, or almost 63%. At the Coulommiers school campus, this Thursday's strike was rather well attended according to figures provided by the Snes-FSU union. Gathered in a general assembly, the striking teachers voted to continue the strike for this Friday, April 5.

The teaching staff denounces two things. First of all, the climate of insecurity which reigns in this large establishment of more than 2,200 students born from the merger in 2009 of a vocational high school and another of general education. Several fights broke out around the establishment, at least two of which ended on the Campus. One student even suffered a serious head injury. It was last Thursday, March 21. Fortunately, he has since been able to return to classes. But teachers' concerns remain.

What ignited the situation was the intrusion of a former student, without the slightest hostile intention, this Friday March 29. The intrusion alert was triggered by the principal. The teachers, already on edge, then came out of their depths while on social networks, the most worrying scenarios were presented as the reality of what had happened.

“The first time in over twenty years”

The second problem at the Campus, this one very old, concerns the dilapidation and even the unsanitary conditions of part of the premises of this establishment which totals 25 buildings. Significant leaks were noted. The fume extractors in automobile mechanics and sanding workshops no longer work. The pits which allow the underside of the cars to be examined are condemned, invaded by water.

According to the Snes-FSU union, this is “the first time in more than twenty years” that a strike notice has been filed in this establishment. “The Campus has been going through difficult times for a year and a half. Insecurity and suffering reign in the educational community,” explain the staff representatives. A meeting of a delegation of strikers with Campus management this Thursday would not have made it possible to move things forward, according to the union. A letter from staff representatives was sent to the academic inspectorate and the rectorate.
