“The impact that such a diagnosis triggers is all the greater”: Alexander Hold has cancer

“I was like most people: you suppress the possibility of a serious illness and, given the variety of everyday stresses, you don't think enough about the fact that health cannot be taken for granted. The impact that such a diagnosis causes is all the greater.” The former TV star continued: “The carcinoma has already grown so close to the neighboring nerves that the operation is challenging. What further therapies will be required afterwards will become apparent after the operation. But I am very confident about the future. I generally have a very good immune system and a positive attitude. And as with every situation in life: you grow from challenges!”

Ex-TV judge Alexander Hold suffers from cancer: “Please take precautions”

Hold made a conscious decision to make his illness public: “If you, as an elected representative, cannot show your usual presence over a longer period of time, that rightly raises questions for people. Only with this openness can I ask the local people, but also the colleagues who represent me in the state parliament presidium and in the parliamentary group, for understanding." But he also appeals to all citizens: "Whether breast, urology, intestinal or skin cancer – please get preventive care, early and regularly! For all types of cancer, the earlier something is detected, the better the chances of recovery!”

No typical symptoms of prostate cancer

Because preventive examinations can save lives. At around 22 percent, prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in Germany. Early detection increases the chances of recovery. However, there are no typical symptoms that indicate a malignant prostate tumor early on. The affected person initially notices nothing. Symptoms usually only occur when the tumor has become so large that it extends to the urethra. “That’s precisely why precaution is so incredibly important,” appeals the politician.
