From the volcanoes of Auvergne to the Moon: a Michelin tire for the future NASA module?

NASA has just revealed the names of the finalist companies to equip the future lunar module which will depart in 2028. Michelin is in pole position


After having been the sole supplier of tires to NASA for the space shuttles between 1981 and 2011, Michelin could well equip the future Moon Racer lunar module which will embark for the Moon in 2028. As part of its Artemis program, the NASA has just revealed the short list of companies still competing to develop the future spacecraft.

Alongside the Texan Intuitive Machines, the Californian Venturi Astrolab, and Lunar Outpost, based in Colorado, there is Michelin from Auvergne, tipped to supply airless tires. A technological challenge that the world's No. 1 tire manufacturer has been preparing for for three years now, because driving on the Moon is far from an easy task.
