In the run-up to the referendum in Schliersees, the election campaign is becoming more heated: banners for the new Schlierseer Hof building are causing trouble for the citizens' initiative.

Schliersee - Shortly before the election notifications for the referendum in Schliersee were sent out, the de Alwis family put up several large posters advertising the new construction of their Schlierseer Hof. At the neighboring property Siebzweirübl, which is known to be part of the new building plans, at the Gasthof Zur Post in the center of Schliersee and at the Gasthof Prinzenweg. The banners are each decorated with different lettering that matches the object in question and are hard to miss. The problem: Not all banners are allowed.

Large posters at the Gasthof Zur Post are not part of the agreement

As Christine Neundlinger from the Schliersee public order office explains, the administration had granted the hotelier family two banners, at the hotel and at the Gasthof Prinzenweg, which also belongs to the de Alwis. The town hall admitted the exception because it did not set up stands for election posters in the run-up to the referendum. However, the two banners at the Postgasthof were not part of the agreement, which was also pointed out to Marcel de Alwis yesterday. Ultimately it was agreed to leave the matter to Mayor Franz Schnitzenbaumer, who returned from vacation on Monday.

Green councilor is angry: “Rules mean nothing to them”

Meanwhile, there is certainly outrage among the citizens' initiative, which is opposing the dimensions of the new building plans for the Schlierseer Hof. Green councilor Gerhard Waas, for example, considers the procedure to be a “violation of the poster regulations”, although he also assumes that the banners are larger than permitted by the town hall. At least that’s not what Neundlinger confirms.

Be that as it may, at least at the post office the hoteliers ignored the agreement. And Waas isn't all that unhappy about that. “This shows what the rules in Schliersee and Schliersee itself mean to them – namely nothing.” The case brings back memories of other unauthorized buildings by the hotelier family. He has already received inquiries about the posters from people outside the BI.

Internal misunderstanding?

When asked, Marcel de Alwis explained that he had not received the municipality's requirements and that communication with the town hall went through his father. Probably a misunderstanding. But he thinks it’s “a shame that the citizens’ initiative is now getting hung up on something like that.” Their activities would sometimes cross borders. But he doesn't feel called upon to make this public.
