LE FIGARO. - What is the impact of erosion on your city?

Most of our historical heritage is in the immediate vicinity of the ocean, which makes our city attractive, but also its fragility. My predecessors made the choice of reason, that of not letting erosion spread. Unlike the neighboring town of Bidart, which lets the coast recede in several places. We resist the ocean everywhere and by all means.
Could you detail your strategy?
The retreat of the coastline is unfortunately a priority that imposes itself on us. We are actively fighting and devoting colossal sums of money to it. During my mandate, which runs from 2020 to 2026, we will have spent nearly 7 million euros in this fight against erosion. A budget to be compared to an annual envelope devoted to investments of 15 to 17 million euros for our municipality. This sum first includes temporary protection against the risk of submersion…
