"It is with great pride that I tell you that Julián Gutiérrez is the first Catamarca native to achieve a place in the Olympic Games! He excels in Sports Shooting and will be our representative in the 2024 edition of Paris. Congratulations!", recognized the governor of Catamarca,
Raúl Jalil
, on his Facebook account.
In May 2018, the man from Catamarca won the silver medal at the
Junior World Championships
held in Benning, United States, and in November, during the
Americas Championships
in Guadalajara, he won the place for Lima 2019 by finishing tenth.
Right there, Gutiérrez was third in the men's 10-meter air rifle event. "Giving him a medal in my first Pan American Games is very nice. Now we have to fight for more. Maybe next time I can get the place," said the man from Catamarca after winning the bronze. Five years later, he did it.

The Gutiérrez house, with a shooting range
Julián knew the shot from a very young age. He began practicing it with his brother Andrés and under the gaze of his father, Marcelo, who became his coach. For this reason, it didn't take long for them to set up a shooting range in his house in a room measuring 12 meters by 4 meters wide.
"The first target we used was a box of wine, and we made it easy
," he confessed in an interview with La Nación.
“I always trained at home because we felt good in that environment, that environment of father and son and I quite liked the fact that no one from the outside gave an opinion, because being a psychological sport, everything that they tell you from the outside can affect you. Being a psychological sport, everything they tell you from the outside can affect you,” he said a few years ago, before becoming the first Olympic Catamarca native.
