A 52-year-old woman was critically injured with knife wounds in Neustadt am Rübenberge near Hanover. On Thursday evening, a 61-year-old attacked the woman in a bar with a knife and stabbed her multiple times, the police said on Friday.
Neustadt - Witnesses tried to help the bar employee and talk the man away from her. The 52-year-old was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the attacker was arrested at the scene. The police seized the suspected murder weapon.
The background to the crime was initially unclear. The police opened criminal proceedings for attempted murder. According to the information, the 61-year-old is still in police custody and should be brought before a judge later on Friday. dpa
