This is not the first consulting experience for the 55-year-old Guadeloupean. She took on this role in 2004 on Canal + during the Athens Olympic Games and continued in 2016, in Rio, this time settling on Team 21 and already on RTL. She then wrote a column on the airwaves. Since last July, she has been officiating on France 3 in the daily show “Aux Jeux Citoyens”. France Télévisions has not yet revealed its system for Paris 2024 but assures that it will play a role on their broadcasts also during the competition.

Triple Olympic gold medalist

Marie-José Pérec is still to this day the only French woman to have won three gold medals in athletics at the Olympic Games: in 1992 in Barcelona over 400 meters then in Atlanta in 1996 over 400 and 200 meters.

She recently told AFP how much she would have liked to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. “

Doing the Games at home, I'm signing up straight away. I'm starting from a blank page, I'm putting everything back into play. I think all the veterans are in this situation. It's going to be crazy. Young people (French people) don't know how lucky they are. There will be such energy... Some athletes, not all, will take the wave and ride it. We are going to see surprises. I believe in it because it’s a galvanizing moment

Although she will not be on the track, Marie-José Pérec will still participate in this great sporting celebration in her own way. It is rumored that she could be the last torchbearer of the Olympic flame. An honor that would touch her a lot even if she would like it to be a moment of sharing:

“Being chosen would make me very happy. I would be very touched because I know that many people want to wear it. Afterwards, we talk about a united French team, a single moment, the Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games and inclusion. If I had to choose, I wouldn't just take one person to light the sink. I would take a disabled man and woman, an able-bodied man and woman,”

she told our colleagues at Eurosport on March 22.
