EL PAÍS had previously verified that the restaurant had insurance, from the company Caser, and that the reason for its closure was due to the damage caused by the work on the house where Ayuso and her partner were going to move. The floods occurred in August and December 2022 and the insurance was in effect until March 3, 2023, when the business owners closed. This information includes a report from the expert paid by the business's insurer, who on December 29 verified that the flood came from the apartment on the sixth floor where the works were being carried out, that is, the property of Ayuso and his partner. The floods left the business in a precarious situation, with multiple creditors. The invoice for the destruction led to the definitive closure in January 2023 (visible on the company's social networks) and the declaration of bankruptcy in January 2024 (which appears in the Commercial Registry).
Rodríguez previously defamed reporters with the slander of harassment of minors, illegally disseminating personal data and a photo of them, which had been obtained by a police officer during a routine check. Last Sunday, he repeated this insidiousness, adding that “they gave out their business card” to minors so they could call them.
The data from the EL PAÍS reporters was obtained by a national police officer who belongs to the president's bodyguard and who had a cordial exchange with the journalists. The agent demanded their press credentials and ID. At no time did that agent file a complaint against the reporters. Then, that information was passed to the general director of security of the Community of Madrid. Just two hours later, Rodríguez spread the hoax with those personal data. Several online media published this information with the photo, the data and without any verification.
The main press associations in Spain rejected the intimidations and the attack by the Community of Madrid on the union on Wednesday morning. The NGO of global reference in the defense of journalists, Reporters Without Borders (RSF), declared itself “deeply alarmed by the serious accusations against journalists.” He demanded that the Madrid popular leader stop the “attacks typical of dictatorships.”
