The Vice President of the Bavarian State Parliament Alexander Hold has announced that he is suffering from cancer. Nevertheless, he looks positively into the future.

Kempten - During a routine check-up, suspicious values and unclear findings were found for the former Kempten judge and Allgäu state parliament member Alexander Hold. After several further examinations, it is now clear: it is cancer. The prostate, which is affected by a malignant tumor, will be surgically removed in April.

Cancer diagnosis was a big blow for Alexander Hold

“I was like most people: you suppress the possibility of a serious illness and, given the variety of everyday stresses, you don't think enough about the fact that health cannot be taken for granted. The impact that such a diagnosis causes is all the greater.”

Hold continued: “The carcinoma has already grown so close to the neighboring nerves that the operation will be challenging. What further therapies will be required afterwards will become apparent after the operation. But I am very confident about the future. I generally have a very good immune system and a positive attitude. And as with every situation in life: you grow from challenges!”

Urgent appeal

Alexander Hold has now consciously decided to make his illness public for two reasons: “If you, as an elected representative, cannot show your usual presence over a longer period of time, that rightly raises questions for people. Only with this openness can I ask the local people, but also the colleagues who represent me in the state parliament presidium and in the parliamentary group, for understanding.”

Above all, Hold combines his openness with an urgent appeal: “Whether it’s breast, urology, colon or skin cancer – please go for preventative care, early and regularly! For all types of cancer, the earlier something is detected, the better the chances of recovery!”
