“Impressionistic Schilderungen amerikanischer Zustände”
published in 1907, Theodor Barth returned to the numerous treasures he had discovered there, taking up for himself and rightly
“the American penchant for all superlatives: smoking earth, multicolored volcanic rocks , petrified forests
.
The former Reichstag deputy thus described
“pools of light green water from which burning waves flow”
. He was ecstatic about the
“wild grandeur of this high valley and its coniferous forests as far as the eye can see, surrounded by snow-capped mountains…
