In the ARD quiz show “Who knows something like that?”, heads often spin. But in this case, a question led to a small outburst from a guest. Moderator Kai Pflaume countered confidently.
Hamburg – While terms like “overweight” are becoming more and more popular in society as a nice way to describe “overweight,” in the animal world it is apparently completely acceptable to describe some species as fat. Actor Reiner Schöne (82) thinks this is mean and complains about science and the names it comes up with for groups of species in the ARD quiz show “Who knows something like that?” However, moderator Kai Pflaume (56) knows how to deal with the outbreak.
“Common” question from the animal world in Kai Pflaume’s quiz show
But first things first: In the broadcast on April 4th, Schöne appeared with team partner Elton (53), his colleague Alexander Klaws (40) and Bernhard Hoëcker (54). Schöne and Klaws have been working for the Karl May Games in Bad Segeberg for several years. During the course of the show, Schöne and Elton are confronted with a question from the animal kingdom. This involves hedgehogs and moles, which belong to the Eulipotyophla group. But what lies behind this cumbersome scientific term?
That's what the question is getting at. Both quickly rule out answer option A, according to which Eulipotyphla means something like “truly fat and blind”. “That sounds like a fairy tale. Hedgehogs aren't blind at all and they aren't actually fat either. No, I don’t like that,” Schöne clarified. Elton added: “Moles aren’t fat either.”
They eventually decided on a different answer option that they both found much more interesting. Accordingly, the term should apply to a common ancestor in the form of an ancient bear species. “And if it’s wrong, at least it made sense,” said Schöne.
After the resolution, Rategast complains about “Who knows something like that?”
Sense or not, a video explains that Eulipotyphla comes from Greek and translates as “truly fat and blind”. In addition to hedgehogs and moles, the group also includes the sloth weevil, the shrew and the already extinct Caribbean shrew. “I think that’s really mean!” said Schöne indignantly after the breakup. “I think calling a mole fat is really mean! Shit science!” But moderator Kai Pflaume reacts to Schöne’s outburst in his usual calm manner: “That’s how nature is sometimes.”

Schöne and Elton ultimately had to admit defeat to the team Klaws and Hoëcker in the final. They earned 4,934 euros for the audience. Recently, spectators even interrupted the show, which is why Kai Pflaume had to intervene.
