For years we discussed, argued and planned. The renovation of the Moosburg “Plan” is now starting. We explain what you should know about the year-long construction site.

Moosburg

– Some people no longer believed that Moosburg would really get going one day. But after more than a decade of planning and debate, the redesign of the central square “Auf der Plan” is set to begin on Monday. The no-parking signs that have already been put up make it clear that citizens are faced with a mammoth construction site in terms of time alone: They are valid until May 31st - 2025. The Freisinger Tagblatt had the Moosburg building authority answer important questions about the start of the work.

Where is blocked, what remains accessible?

The entire “plan” is blocked for vehicles. At the edge areas, the construction fence extends to the edges of the sidewalk. The churches, restaurants as well as the bank, practice and commercial buildings remain accessible to pedestrians. Cyclists have to push their vehicle.

How are the construction phases divided?

The construction work runs from the back (eastern area of the rectory) to the front (entrance to the town square). Construction phase 1, which is to be demolished and then immediately rebuilt, affects the area around the war memorial. The monument itself remains unchanged in the same place. Section 2 concerns the large square in the middle, where the market otherwise takes place. Sections 3 and 4 then deal with the areas along the rows of houses in the north and south. Section 5 covers the access area between the street at the town square and the alley entrance at Volksbank-Eck. When asked about the duration of the individual construction phases, building authority manager Herbert Held said: “There are so many imponderables in terms of time, I can't say anything about that yet.” What is certain, however, is that “the area over to the Vhs” will probably not be started until spring 2025 . “We hope that, depending on construction delays, we can get as far as possible this year.”

The redesign of the Moosburg “plan” will probably take at least a year of construction time. The work is divided into several sections. It starts in the eastern area, behind the war memorial. © City of Moosburg

What happens to the weekly market?

As with previous major events or construction work, the Saturday weekly market will take place during the construction phase in the parking lot on Leinbergerstrasse, diagonally opposite the fire station.

Which events are still affected?

The huge beer garden on the “Plan” will not be available at this year’s Old Town Festival. You avoid the rest of the city center. The summer festival of the Kultur Moosburg eV association also needs a new venue for the open-air events. The five-day festival at the end of July will therefore take place in the “Alte Police” car park behind the fire station. Church processions are also no longer possible on the “Plan” this year.

What awaits restaurateurs?

At the end of March, the residents of the “plan” were informed by letter about the start of construction and the planned garbage collection points. Some residents found this type of information to be too poor and complained about the city's inadequate information policy. Herbert Held cannot understand the criticism that came especially from the operators of the Café Am Münster and the Indian restaurant Maharaja. “The city invited all homeowners to an information event in November - and asked that the invitation be passed on to the tenants of the restaurants. But then only the homeowners came.” In response to the discontent, individual discussions were or are still being held with the local operators and those responsible for the One World store, says Held. “We are trying to find solutions to all obstacles.” Delivery vehicles could continue to supply the restaurateurs and also the back of the Grundner bakery via a central construction site gate on the town square. The construction site for the new residential building between Grundner-Back and Herrnstrasse will also be supplied via this corridor.

Can the hosts use their outdoor space?

The terraces of the Münster café and Indian restaurant (former Pöschlbräu) should remain usable for the time being. Held: “These two outdoor areas will be removed at a later date because the areas will be included in the redesign, so that in the future there will be a uniform picture of outdoor dining. We are trying to push this construction phase back as much as possible so that businesses can still use their terraces over the summer.” Demolition will begin in September. According to the plans, after the renovation, café guests can look forward to two new chestnut trees at the restaurant tables.

This is what the newly designed “Auf dem Plan” square at the foot of the Moosburg Kastulusmünster will look like. Until the new paving, the seating steps, the fountain game, the new greenery or the reduced number of parking spaces can be experienced, construction work will take place in several sections for a total of a year from Monday. © City of Moosburg

How many parking spaces does the “plan” have in the future?

Of the current 65 parking spaces, 25 permanent parking spaces will remain after the renovation: along the wall in front of St. John's Church, opposite Tabak Kiermaier and along the row of Volksbank/pediatrician/architectural office buildings. A multifunctional area on the converted “plan” will mean a total of 56 parking spaces will be temporarily available on special days in the future.

What are the highlights of the new “plan”?

Among other things, the area around the war memorial should be given more quality of stay through seating steps and green areas. Children can look forward to a water fountain game, which can be converted into an ice rink in winter. The level should be equalized across the entire course. And instead of walking on asphalt, you will now be walking on chic pavement at the Moosburg “Plan”.
