The embarrassment in Heidenheim hurts the Bayern bosses. It also bodes ill before the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League at Arsenal. But there is no change of coach.
Heidenheim - Despite the embarrassment of FC Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel should also sit on the bench at newly promoted 1. FC Heidenheim in the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League at Arsenal FC. “No, I didn’t have that thought,” said Bayern’s sports director Max Eberl after the embarrassing 3-2 on Sky on Saturday evening when asked about a possible short-term change of coach: “That’s definitely not the way. Bayern have already fired the coach, but they are still where they are. It’s not always just a coaching problem.”
However, Eberl did not want to confirm that this job guarantee also applies until the end of the season. “We have to make sure we reach the Champions League,” said the 50-year-old: “But it is completely clear to me that he will be on the bench next Tuesday and will be on the bench against Cologne on Saturday.” The game Against Cologne, however, Tuchel has to watch from the stands because he received his fourth yellow card for complaining in Heidenheim and is therefore banned from the next league game.
Sports director Christoph Freund also supported Tuchel immediately after the new setback. “Thomas is trying to get a lot of energy in,” said the Austrian and appealed to the players: “Everyone really has to nibble on themselves now.”
Immediately after the defeat, Tuchel appeared relatively at a loss despite a 2-0 half-time lead - also with a view to the premier class clash on Tuesday in London. The coach admitted that it was “difficult to answer” how he wanted to give a positive impulse: “We are already giving it. But we'll set it tomorrow or the day after, we still have two days left." dpa
