New building for the Geretsried middle school: A three-story extension is to be built on the north side on Adalbert-Stifter-Straße.
Geretsried – A comprehensive renovation of the existing building is also planned. At the most recent city council meeting, project manager Hertneck presented the current status of the planning.
The merger of the two middle school locations on Adalbert-Stifter-Straße and on Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße was decided in 2016. A basic investigation and an examination of the inventory were then carried out in 2017 and 2018.

In 2021, due to the expected population growth, the city council decided to increase the number of seats and, a year later, to build a new cafeteria on a third floor. “It will be a beautiful, attractive new building,” promised project manager Christian Hertneck from the office “Haindl + colleague architects” to the city council. Damaged interior walls will be replaced and energy-efficient renovations will be carried out with new building technology. Hertneck admitted that setting up the construction site was challenging due to the narrow access roads and the busy activity at the school center.
A total of around 750 students will be taught in 30 classes in the existing building and the new building - including a special support and German class. According to Hertneck, the tree felling and route laying will begin in October 2025 and is expected to last eight months. After the low-rise building is demolished during the 2026 summer holidays, the new building will be constructed, which can ideally be opened at the turn of the year 2028/2029. Only then will the general renovation of the existing building begin, which should be ready for occupancy in August 2030.
The entire project for the Geretsried middle school should cost 48.5 euros
The construction work also includes the creation of open spaces and break areas. Overall, the planners expect a total cost volume of around 48.5 million euros. The government of Upper Bavaria is funding the project with an estimated 20 million euros.
The city council unanimously approved the plans, including the cost estimate for the expansion and general renovation. In addition, the presented area concept for the outdoor facilities. The plans are still to be awarded. The eligibility of areas that are not part of the break area still needs to be clarified. At the request of Patrik Kohlert (Geretsrieder List), the cost development for the upcoming service phases will be monitored and examined.
