Former “Tatort” actress Sibel Kekilli said in an interview that her parents wanted money from her when she started working.
Munich – For seven years, Sibel Kekilli (43) played detective Sarah Brandt in the Kiel “Tatort” alongside Axel Milberg (67) alias Klaus Borowski until she left at her own request in 2017. And her role as Shae in “Game of Thrones” also contributed to her popularity. In “3nach9”, the popular actress allowed viewers to take a look at the people behind the famous roles and take part in their own, very personal fate.
Sibel Kekilli on her childhood: “Who am I? Where do I belong?”
On April 5th, Sibel Kekilli was a guest on “
3nach9
” hosted by presenter Giovanni di Lorenzo (65) and talked about her eventful life. Born in Heilbronn in 1980, she experienced the beginning of school as “traumatizing” because she was the only “foreigner” who was always “looked at strangely” because she was forbidden to eat pork. She describes her parents, a worker and a cleaner, who came to Germany from the Turkish province of Kayseri in 1977 as traditional and sticking to their culture.
Kekilli reported to the “3nach9” audience that her parents isolated her from the modern outside world. “I had no identity at all, so to speak, because I no longer knew: Who am I? Where do I belong?” And although she graduated top of the tenth grade, her parents “cut her off from education” afterward because they wanted her to earn money as quickly as possible.
Sibel Kekilli about her parents: “Now you have to pay it back.”
Kekilli also told what her parents were thinking: "With the reasoning: 'We raised you for 17 years, now you have to pay it back.' And apparently these expectations were even followed by actions, like the former "Tatort" actress did to the audience let it be known: “I also had to go to the bank with my first salary, i.e. before I had my first salary, and sign a standing order that they would get half of my salary.”

If close friends had noticed this, they wouldn't have believed her. They would have thought this was for their driver's license or their car. “Of course I had to pay for everything myself and that wasn’t the case. That was 'Payback'. Pay back,” she says. Kekilli is currently working on a partly autobiographical script about a family that has fallen out. A “Tatort” star recently fired against “helicopter parents”.
