Freising's singer Julia Schröter is not only diverse, but always good for a surprise. She has come up with a special concept for her next concert in the Furtner - and promises surprises.

Freising

- It is perhaps the most unusual concert that has taken place in Freising for a long time: Julia Schröter, who can without a doubt be considered the voice of Freising, will be at the Furtner on Friday, April 12th with four exceptional musicians. Going on stage - but, and that's the highlight - with changing partners as a duo. Under the title “That's all me”, Schröter pays a deep respect to the supreme discipline of a show – the heartbeats and musical dreams of two artists on stage.

“The question for me is always: What isn’t jazz?” Julia Schröter takes time to talk to the FT during a break in rehearsals at the music school. For them, a lot of it is jazz or at least has its roots there. Matthias Huber, whom she has known for a long time, sees it similarly and with whom she would like to bow to Ella Fitzgerald that evening. Under the duo name “Here's Julia's Ella” they are currently working on “Stella by Starlight” – a song that immediately gets under your skin in their version. What's special is that both the singer and the saxophonist manage to sound like a whole orchestra charmingly and without much effort, because they achieve what Fitzgerald may have once dreamed of.

“It’s actually like dancing.”

“It’s actually like dancing,” Matthias Huber suddenly says between two notes, referring to the musical intimacy of a duo on stage. “I've always been a duo fan,” explained Julia and continued: “I think it's great to create something as a couple.” So it's no wonder that the Freising artist has repeatedly performed in a duo with other musicians, including Yvo Fischer on bass and the Freising independent legend Norbert Bürger.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

“It’s going to be great, no question about it,” explained Bürger as he moved from the rehearsal room to his own living room. After a cup of coffee, he remembers: “We only play songs that we like anyway.” He and Schröter have long been known as the duo “Bang Bang”. But even those who know and have experienced them by this name should be surprised, because the two have picked out new songs especially for the evening. They also rehearsed one of them that day, “Glory Box” by Portishead – and it sounded damn good, as if the band had been resurrected as a magical duo.

What Schröter and drummer Stephan Treutter bring to the stage remains a surprise

What stands out here: Above all, it is the singer's voice, which covers an incredible range and always sounds authentic, accompanied by the crème de la crème of the Freising music scene. The most unusual could of course be the duet with drummer Stephan Treutter - as the “Schröter Treutter Duo”. Schröter didn't want to reveal what the two of them will bring to the stage, except that it could be extremely exciting and will have the loose motto “Brazil Jazz and Improvisations”.

Yvo Fischer, the bass all-rounder, will also be there; funk and soul will be the focus of the set. “Together we would be the perfect jazz quintet, but we don’t play a single number together,” says Schröter about her partners and adds: “That’s a bit crazy, but I really like this challenge.” Bürger sips his coffee and looks optimistic. “I'm not afraid at all. People will like it because their head thinks of all the other instruments. That's the beauty of it. It's like a big magical illusion."

Good to know
