If the Flixbus victims had been wearing seatbelts, everyone would still be alive, says the “Umbrella” boss. An unacceptable statement for a survivor of the accident.

A. was on board when the Flixbus crashed near Leipzig. Four people died and six were seriously injured. The fact that the travel agent ascribes complicity to the victims is a punch in the stomach for the eyewitness. The subcontractor “Umbrella” provided the bus and drivers for the journey from Berlin to Zurich.
“This makes me so angry,” Ashley tells
IPPEN.MEDIA.
“Nobody takes responsibility. It's so unfair that there are no consequences - at least none yet. And you certainly don’t point your finger at the passengers.” The young student demands that the circumstances of the accident be clarified. And complains that some people seem to be trying to shrug off responsibility at the moment.
Eyewitness to Flixbus accident speaks at IPPEN.MEDIA
The passenger contacted our editorial team to talk about the circumstances of the accident on the A9. To prove that she was really on board, she presented her ticket and ID card. Her name is known to the editorial team, but has been changed for reporting purposes.

Especially since Ashley is convinced that the argument between the two drivers may have played a significant role in the accident. According to her statement, the men argued continuously. From the moment when one of them was said to have arrived late for the departure with a coffee in his hand, to the devastating crash just before the Schkeuditzer Kreuz.

“Umbrella” did not want to comment on the passenger’s criticism. The company refers to the ongoing police investigation and declines to comment. Flixbus reacts similarly to requests.

Apparently the cause of the Flixbus accident cannot be found on the vehicle. The bus was only recently inspected by the TÜV and all assistance systems were said to have worked perfectly, Flixbus said the day after. And the driver was also awake and had kept his rest times.

Survivor of Flixbus accident was not wearing a seatbelt herself
Targeting the passengers is still incomprehensible to Ashley. Yes, passengers are required to wear seatbelts on coaches and they should adhere to this for their own safety. The fact that everyone would have survived if they had worn seatbelts is still a theory that cannot be verified. Especially since it is not clear whether all of the fatalities were not wearing seatbelts. “I wasn’t wearing a seatbelt myself,” admits the 28-year-old. She couldn't find her belt. "I was probably sitting on it myself." Ashley survived, but the girl next to her didn't.
