At the end of 2023, the Atzinger tavern in Maxvorstadt was insolvent: now it is back - with a new boss and traditional Bavarian cuisine.

Munich - Jasmin Stettner raises her wheat beer glass, turns to her friends at the table, then everyone shouts in unison: “Proooost!” Glasses clink. The teaching students are celebrating - not only the fact that they have passed their first state exam, but also the place where they can finally toast it again. Because the Atzinger is back!

Atzinger student business reopened in Maxvorstadt

The red, green and white balloons on the house facade on the corner of Schellingstrasse and Amalienstrasse reveal: The traditional student inn in Maxvorstadt is buzzing again. Most recently, only work equipment was humming there, because at the end of 2023 the restaurant had to file for bankruptcy. After that, the new boss Agon Bajrami – also known as Agon Kocht – did some renovations.

So now the comeback. Jasmin and her troop are happy - they have already experienced a lot at Atzinger. “My buddy Eli even repaired the toilet flush here,” says the 26-year-old during her visit to Merkur on Thursday afternoon and laughs. Shortly afterwards, your dumplings with sauce are served.

Free beer or free specials on opening days

On the first two days of opening, there was a free beer or a special for each dish on the opening menu. On offer: Allgäu cheese spaetzle (16 euros) or roast pork (15 euros) – tempting for many. Starting today, Friday, the regular menu is available, which combines Bavarian classics (Obazda with pretzel, 12 euros) as well as vegetarian and vegan dishes (potato wedges with herb crème fraîche, 12 euros).

Agon Bajrami (36), who works as a chef in the kitchen, conjures up all of this - just as he did for 16 years at the Harlachinger Einkehr. He attaches great importance to Bavarian food at Atzinger “because it is a traditional restaurant”.

“The only Bavarian inn in the area”

In addition to the students, Angelina (38) and her colleagues Leonie (30) and Jin (32) also missed Atzinger. They work just around the corner. “And it is now basically the only Bavarian inn in the area.” Agon Bajrami is now open every day. Weisswurst breakfast is available from 10 a.m. and warm food between 11:30 a.m. and 11 p.m.
