From 2012 to 2023, Jan-Gregor Kremp was seen as “The Old Man” on ZDF. He then left the series at his own request. This is how he stands by this decision today.
Leipzig – For around ten years, Jan-Gregor Kremp (61) conquered the ZDF audience as Chief Inspector Richard Voss in “Der Alte”. However, that ended in 2023. The actor left the format at his own request. His series character said goodbye and went to Italy. Does Jan-Gregor Kremp regret his exit today?
After ten years: That’s why Jan-Gregor Kremp left “The Old One”
At “MDR-RIverboat” Jan-Gregor Kremp spoke about his “Der Alte” exit. “It was just time after 10 years. At some point you notice that. Corona also came along, I have to say that too. It became very tiring, the whole thing, with masks, tests every day, then a lighting technician was missing again,” said the TV star.
In addition, he couldn't drive home at the time - because the film was shot in Munich and Kremp lives in Leverkusen. “Then I went to myself and asked myself: What else do you actually want? You will also be 60 next year. And then I thought, there has to be something new,” said the now 61-year-old, remembering the moment when he made the decision.
Right decision? This is how Jan-Gregor Kremp thinks today about his exit from “Der Alte”
This moment was now around two years ago. Looking back, was it the right decision? “I think so, yes. I haven't regretted that. I enjoyed doing that. I also miss something, I admit that,” explained Jan-Gregor Kramp. He especially misses his colleagues, such as Stephanie Stumph (39), very much.

“The whole team, it was 10 years and they were all really cool people and I miss that. But that I am my own boss now... Someone recently called me and asked: 'Could you come for a coffee? I say: 'Yes, of course.' That went. “That wasn’t possible before,” said the native of North Rhine-Westphalia. Most recently, Charles M. Huber made serious accusations against the “The Old One” production.
