It is a cultural rebirth: the hall in the Altenauer Dorfwirt is to be filled with life again. The first program items have already been determined.

Altenau – They worked like world champions. Within 15 months, they transformed an orphaned inn into a gem in the village center. The 150 volunteers put 22,000 hours of work into their new Altenau village inn. The economy reopened in August 2014. A rebirth, so to speak. As luck would have it, another one is now due to turn ten. And in the hall. Culture is to move in there under the name “Altenauer Dorfwirtbühne”.

In December last year, those responsible for the village hall cooperative and the innkeepers Petra and Frank Eigen sat down and discussed it. In the end, the decision was made to fill the space with space for 100 guests with social and cultural life. Just as it was formulated in the statutes as the cooperative's task - and as was the case before Corona.

Hall equipped with modern technology

The tenant couple, who have been leaving their mark on the restaurant since 2020, are entering unfamiliar territory with the concept. “This is new territory for us,” says Frank Eigen, who spoils the guests with culinary delights. One that the two of them would like to get to know. The duo - the village innkeeper acts as the organizer - but receives support. Ludwig Wilhelm, second chairman of the village hall cooperative, takes care of the organization of the program items. “It's fun, otherwise I wouldn't do it.” Especially since he comes out as a fan of the location. “We have a super cool hall that is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.”

Since the decision, Wilhelm has been trying to attract artists. With success (see info box). For the start on April 27th, he was able to win over a young brass band of a slightly different kind, the So & So band, for the Altenau Dorfwirtbühne. The performance is already sold out. Only through word of mouth and a few pieces of paper that were put out at the carnival. A promising start. With the Iberl-Bühne, the Bavarian cult pub theater from Munich, the initiators are setting an absolute highlight in February 2025.

Something for every taste

The aim is to have well-known musicians, comedians and cabaret artists perform regularly. But we also want to offer new discoveries from near and far a platform to present themselves. There is also entertainment in the form of Bavarian song evenings or plays. The musicians' regulars' table should also take place regularly again. Wilhelm calls it a “colorful variety of events” so there is something for every taste.

As a rule, the audience sits comfortably at tables - with the exception of partially seated concerts with a dance floor. Doors open at 6 p.m. If you want, you can fortify yourself with home-made food in the restaurant area. But there is also something to eat and drink during the break between performances.

Small, nice, affordable

Further events are already being planned. The website (www.altenauer-dorfwirt.de) is also receiving a makeover and is currently being spruced up and the Altenauer Dorfwirt stage is being added. Social networks will also be used for advertising purposes. Basically, the cooperative and the landlords follow a clear line: “We want to fill niches,” explains Wilhelm. The events should be “small but nice and affordable”. So that the village hall develops into a cultural center.
