How can we welcome, in complete health security, the more than 15 million visitors expected in Paris and its region during the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games next summer? Concentrated over a few weeks of summer, this exceptional flow is added to all the Parisians who will remain in the capital. A major challenge for the health system, necessarily anticipated by the authorities, but which worries caregivers and doctors.
As for Public Assistance-Hospitals of Paris, additional staff, enticed by bonuses, will be mobilized compared to a “classic” summer. Not enough to reassure Gilles Pialoux, head of the infectious diseases department at Tenon hospital. “Some tell us that there is nothing to worry about, that things went well during previous major events. But we are in a more precarious situation today, and each grain of sand in the hospital can have serious consequences,” he argues.
