Mercan is suffering from leukemia. A stem cell donor is being sought for the 38-year-old, who has fulfilled her dream with her job as an educator.
Nuremberg - Her name translates as coral, which is said to protect against all evil and negative energy. “This is what the Hof native and Nuremberg resident needs more than anything else and maybe you too,” reports the German Bone Marrow Donor File (DKMS) on its website. Because Mercan suffers from leukemia.

It all started quite harmlessly. Out of nowhere, the 38-year-old had serious dental problems. “Suddenly she became weaker day by day, could hardly walk and suffered from shortness of breath. The diagnosis came in the emergency room: acute leukemia,” the DKMS continued. Mercan is 38 years old, cheerful and positive. Taking care of the youngest children as an educator has always been her lifelong dream. She has been working for Ekin (Protestant Daycare Center Dietrich Bonhoeffer Church) for many years.

DKMS call: Stem cell donors wanted for Mercan
According to the DKMS, she began her biggest and most important journey in February 2024: “The journey to her health and to her genetic twin. But she can’t do it alone,” says the DKMS. A donor is now being sought for the cheerful young woman. Several actions are currently planned. Anyone who is healthy and between 17 and 55 years old can take part.
