Even though the total phase of the solar eclipse lasts more than three hours globally, each observation location in the path of totality only sees the sun eclipsed for a few minutes. The total solar eclipse will peak at 8:17 p.m. near Nazas, Durango in Mexico. There the sun is darkened for 4 minutes and 29 seconds. However, live streams make it possible to enjoy the peak of the eclipse multiple times or for longer periods at a time using cameras at different locations along the path of totality.

Total solar eclipse: Germany will have to be patient for many more years

Since the total solar eclipse on April 8th cannot be seen in the sky in Germany, the live stream offers come from English-speaking countries. However, one can assume that television stations in Germany will also occasionally switch to the solar eclipse in the USA and show it. Astronomy clubs or planetariums may also offer local events - such as the Zeiß Large Planetarium in Berlin, which wants to show the “Sofi” in the large planetarium dome and combine it with expert commentary.

It will be many years before a total solar eclipse can be seen again in Germany: it will not be until September 3, 2081 that the rare celestial spectacle can be admired again in the sky over Germany. The last time a total solar eclipse took place over Germany was on August 11, 1999. The next solar eclipse that can be seen in the sky from Germany will take place in just under a year: on March 29, 2025, the full moon will only partially eclipse the sun - but the partial solar eclipse can at least be observed in this country.
