An accident late on Sunday afternoon on the A696 near Weßling left one seriously injured and two slightly injured. The fire department had to free a driver from the wreckage of his car.

Gilching/Weßling

– In a serious accident early on Sunday evening around 6 p.m. on the A 96 motorway in the direction of Lindau, a person was trapped in their vehicle near Weßling. She was first freed by the fire department and then flown to a hospital in a rescue helicopter. According to the Fürstenfeldbruck traffic police station, the 64-year-old driver of a car from Romania was the only one involved in driving off the road. As he pulled back onto the road, the car was struck by traffic behind.

The vehicles were still on the road when the volunteer fire departments from Gilching and Steinebach, the Starnberg district fire inspection and the first responder from the Weßling fire department arrived. According to the district fire inspection, the vehicle that caused the accident was so deformed that the driver's hand was trapped between the steering wheel and the door panel. The people who were in the other car involved were able to get out of the vehicle on their own. The 64-year-old was finally freed using a hydraulic rescue device.

The rescue helicopter landed on the highway and flew the seriously injured man straight to a clinic. Two slightly injured people from the second vehicle involved were taken to nearby hospitals by emergency services.

To secure the scene of the accident, the motorway in the direction of Lindau had to be completely closed. Until the vehicles were finally rescued, traffic was then directed past the emergency site on the hard shoulder. In this context, Thomas Schade from the Starnberg district fire inspection praised the behavior of most road users, who had left an emergency lane clear in an exemplary manner. The only negative thing that was noticed was a motorcyclist who drove into the emergency lane twice directly in front of emergency vehicles and hindered their approach. A notice awaits the driver.
