While on holiday, many tourists use public transport to explore the city. A ticket is mandatory, and violations can result in high fines.

Whether bus, subway or tram: public transport is extremely important, especially for tourists, so that they can explore all corners of the city on a trip. Anyone who uses the offer should always ensure that they also solve the corresponding ticket. If 60 euros for fare evasion in Germany seems high, you can experience a blue miracle in other European countries.

Fare evasion fares are cheapest in Eastern European countries: in the Latvian capital Riga, driving without a ticket costs just 15 euros in fines, while in the neighboring country of Lithuania, offenders only pay 16 euros. The fines are also comparatively low in Sofia (20.50 euros) and Budapest (30.70 euros).

Fare evasion is also becoming expensive in Norway

It should be noted that the

bunq

analysis misses another European city where fines for fare evasion are very high: the Norwegian capital Oslo. Anyone caught here will have to fork out 1,470 Norwegian krone, the equivalent of just under 127 euros. It is 1,200 crowns (around 104 euros) if the fine is paid immediately, as it says on the Ruter transport company website.

bunq

also mentions

that the minimum prices were used in the evaluation. The penalties can be significantly higher if cities work with a price range. Fines in Rome can reach up to 200 euros, according to a report in the

Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ)

. In other cities, however, it is possible to reduce the fine by paying the amount early: in London the price is even halved from 100 pounds to 50 pounds if paid within 21 days.
