Some passengers just don't know how to behave. A former flight attendant documents the most absurd incidents on her TikTok channel.

The plane seems to be a place that has a high potential for conflict. Anyone who has ever flown knows the problems. Regardless of whether it's a dispute over the armrest or the unwanted folding back of the seat back, you can quickly become annoyed by the behavior of a fellow passenger. Little things can quickly lead to freak outs. The

Federal Aviation Office (LBA)

reported 351 incidents with “Unruly Passengers” in 2023. But in addition to physical disputes, there are also numerous flight passengers who simply lack good behavior. Not everyone follows airplane etiquette. A former flight attendant is dedicated to these incidents with her own TikTok account, where she documents the most worrying behavior of passengers.

The American Shawn Kathleen has been running an Instagram account called “Passenger Shaming” since 2013, which in German means something like “to shame passengers” or “to pillory”. There she posts photos and videos that document how far some passengers go on board an airplane. Now she is also on TikTok. There are all kinds of questionable behavior in the posts. From wild freakouts to disgusting incidents to funny and heartwarming scenes. “Passenger Shaming” has now built up a large following. The profile has around 16,000 followers on TikTok. The former flight attendant is followed by 1.4 million users on Instagram.

As Shawn Kathleen explained to

Businessinsider.de

, it all started with simple diary entries in which she wrote about passenger behavior: "I experienced ridiculous, scary questions with certain passenger requests, things that were just crazy... people being aggressive, quite a few rude people saying inappropriate rude things, people trying to touch me, pulling on my blouse/skirt/blazer, people snapping their fingers at me or waving their empty cups around”. From her experiences she collected a long list of typical no-gos. “I ran into the back galley and started writing things down. The diary became full pretty quickly.” These include degenerated arguments over armrests, drunk passengers and numerous bare feet.

TikTok account documents flight behavior: including heartwarming scenes

In addition to highly questionable and often disgusting behavior, “Passenger Shaming” also shows positive and heartwarming situations on board. This includes a video in which a flight attendant with a baby in her arms walks down the aisle to close the luggage racks before takeoff. The little “assistant” looks at everything carefully and listens eagerly to the flight attendant’s explanations.

Disgusting behavior on the flight: bare feet on board

Since almost every passenger has their smartphone with them these days, which can be quickly pulled out at any time, it's no longer just Shawn Kathleen's videos that can be found on the channel. Numerous users provide the American with content. A common motif on passenger shaming is passengers taking off their shoes and placing their bare feet on the seats or armrests.

An absolute no-go for the former flight attendant. She

tells

: “I even agree with people taking off their shoes if 1. they have clean socks that don't smell and 2. they keep their feet on the floor. But they don't belong on the wall or the blinds, these things break." While "Passenger Shaming" undoubtedly has a humorous touch, there is an important message behind every post: respect and civility should be maintained even in the air. Impossible behavior towards flight attendants and fellow passengers is out of place. Please pay attention to the etiquette on board.
