Acting great Peter Sodann is dead, his family announced on Sunday. Then he stood in front of the camera as a crime scene detective for 15 years.

Munich – Once again the German acting world has to cope with the loss of a legend, the actor Peter Sodann is dead. He died on Friday at the age of 87 in Halle an der Saale. His family announced this on Sunday. Then he became known to a wide audience primarily through his role as crime scene detective Bruno Ehrlicher.

Actor Peter Sodann was part of the first East German crime scene team

Sodann played the role of the somewhat grumpy chief inspector for around 15 years, and until 2007 he was in front of the camera for ARD. Together with Bernd Michael Lade, Inspector Kain, Sodann was part of the first East German crime scene team. The two investigated together, first in Dresden and later in Leipzig.

Sodann came from Meißen in Saxony, where he was born on June 1, 1936 as the son of a worker. After an apprenticeship as a toolmaker and a foray into law, he studied at the Leipzig Theater University.

Sodann also ran a cabaret that was closed in 1961 because of a program that was found to be counter-revolutionary. He was then even arrested for anti-state agitation. He spent nine months in prison in the GDR, and later the Stasi spied on him.

He also made a name for himself as a theater maker. As director, he created a unique cultural island with several venues at his home in Halle. In 1986 he received the National Prize in the GDR. In 2001 he was also awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.

In the past few months, the German acting world has had to say goodbye to several legends. Actor Elmar Wepper died unexpectedly in the fall. In March, Wepper's brother, acting great Fritz Wepper, died after a long, serious illness.
