    Israel has meanwhile accused Hamas of firing rockets at Israel from a “humanitarian zone” in the south of the Gaza Strip. Israeli fighter jets targeted and destroyed three Hamas launch pads in such a zone to the west of the city of Khan Yunis, the army said.

    On Sunday (April 7), three projectiles were fired at Israeli towns from the conflict-free area in Khan Yunis, the statement said. They struck in an open area. No civilians were endangered in the subsequent Luftwaffe attack on the launch pads.

    The military withdrew from Khan Yunis that day after a month-long ground operation. Hamas initially did not comment on the incidents. Since the beginning of the war, the military arm of the terrorist organization has repeatedly claimed responsibility for rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns.

    A Hamas representative has dampened hopes of an imminent ceasefire. No progress was made at the latest round of talks in Cairo, which also included delegations from Israel, Qatar and the USA, he told
