What seemed like a settling of scores linked to the world of crime was actually a case of justice by one's own hands for a merchant who was the victim of several robberies and the lack of response from the system. Carlos Ramos (31) crossed paths with one of the thieves on the street and could not resist the mocking laughter: he pulled out a gun and killed him with a bullet in the chest.
The incident occurred in the city of Corrientes and this weekend the man's family held
a sale of chicken with rice and a collection to pay for the defense expenses
.
Although Ramos was granted house arrest by Judge Josefina González Cabaña, the homicide process continues.
Carlos has a small business in the neighborhood and lives in the Ongay neighborhood. Last week, his wife, Silvina, notified him that they had suffered a robbery again at his house.
The 27-year-old woman was
recovering from dengue fever
at her parents' home while Carlos continued with his work, since he is the only breadwinner in the home, which also includes two children, ages four and nine.
Through the security cameras, Ramos was able to identify the criminals and with that evidentiary material he went to the 21st police station to file a report because the police never responded to his call.
There he had to insist that the incident be formally recorded with a summary number. The agents detained those who looted Ramos's house, but
a few hours later they were all released
.
The criminals began to make fun of Carlos. They passed through the neighborhood so I could see them free.
On Wednesday, the merchant suffered the theft of cables, openings and what was left in his house. The accusations fell on another known criminal, but since the search at his home came back negative, he was released. History repeated.
On Wednesday, on the corner of Yugoslavia and Sardeña streets, Ramos crossed paths with two of the people identified as those responsible for the robbery at his home. He rolled down the window of his red Volkswagen Gol and fired two shots with a 22-caliber revolver.
The projectiles hit the chest of
Emanuel Ponce, 32
, and a large criminal record for different crimes.
“Martincito”
, another known criminal, became a witness to the fact that he could have had him as a victim.
The Gol quickly left the scene, but two days later the Police managed to locate and arrest its driver. Ramos had in his possession the Pasper brand revolver that he would have used to take justice into his own hands.
The merchant was taken to the arraignment hearing, where he was seen dejected. Upon hearing the prosecutor's accusation, he burst into tears.
When deciding whether to leave him imprisoned for the crime, the Guarantee Judge Josefina González Cabaña took into account several elements:
the detainee's lack of criminal record
, the fact that he was the breadwinner of his family and that he had not at any time tried to hinder the investigation.
He also noted that he had previously been the victim of two robberies in a matter of hours.
Finally the judge decided to grant him house arrest. “Martincito”, 24 years old, is still free with the gang that looted the house of the merchant whom everyone now points to as “the vigilante.”
This weekend his family launched a campaign to raise funds to cover the costs of the defense.
They sold 50 portions of chicken with rice,
and several neighbors decided to make a contribution so that Carlos would not end up convicted.
The request for help circulated on social networks: “
The vigilante needs our help to pay for his lawyer's fees
.” Family and friends are present. After this fact that a laborer is imprisoned while those who entered his house are free as if nothing had happened. Total absence of the 21st police station, they left us completely alone, we came and went and never had a favorable response, now Ramos is detained for taking justice into his own hands
.
“
We ask for collaboration to pay for the defense to start moving their papers. Be it 20, 50 pesos will be welcome. Now he needs us, just as at some point we needed him, such a good guy
,” they concluded.
