As the Tyrol State Police Department reported on Sunday, the 43-year-old set off alone on Saturday for a tour to the approximately 2,009 meter high Schneidspitze in the Allgäu Alps. In a video message shortly after 10 a.m., he told his relatives that he was stopping the hike just below the summit due to unfavorable conditions and would turn back.
After the hiker did not return on Saturday, his family alerted the police in Germany, who in turn informed their colleagues in Austria. On Sunday, after a short time, the crew of a police helicopter discovered the dead missing man in steep terrain below the summit near the border with Bavaria. Based on the tracks, the police assume that he slipped on a steep snow field and fell around 150 meters.
The search for a Bavarian aircraft in Tyrol recently ended. The pilot's body and the wreckage of the small plane were found after three days.
