From now on, anyone who travels around Blomberg will always meet a certain man there: Johann Danner from Lenggries is the new Blomberg coordinator.

Bad Tölz/Lenggries - Anyone who travels around Blomberg will now always meet a certain man there: Johann Danner succeeded Manuel Wilke as Blomberg coordinator on February 1st. This makes him an important mediator on the mountain: between excursionists and locals, for example, but also between forest and alpine farmers, mountain railway operators and the city of Bad Tölz.

A “caretaker” for the Blomberg near Bad Tölz

Five years ago, the city of Bad Tölz created the 20-hour position of a “caretaker” for the Blomberg. This should be someone who looks after everything on site, who knows and brings together all the actors who work on the mountain, and who also acts as a link to the town hall. Manuel Wilke fulfilled this task right from the start. Now that he has taken a different career direction, the position became available - and Johann Danner's interest was immediately piqued.

The 29-year-old from Lenggries originally completed an apprenticeship as a stonemason as well as agricultural training and most recently worked in horticulture. His knowledge and experience will benefit him in his new job. “I am familiar with the topic of forestry and alpine farming,” says Danner. And that also plays a big role at Blomberg. Due to his practical training, the 29-year-old is also easily able to get involved himself, for example when minor repairs are necessary or a tree needs to be trimmed back.

Blomberg coordinator also sometimes removes rubbish

Danner spends a lot of time outside in the mountains and comes into contact with people. “Many hikers talk to you and then you chat,” he says. He is also the contact person for school classes or groups of teachers on further training who, for example, use the “green classroom” or are on the “discovery path”. The latter consists of various experience stations where children can learn something about forest sounds, animals, trees, tracking and more. Danner's first tasks in his new job currently include repairing all equipment - such as a forest lounger, forest television, wooden xylophone and more - after the winter and making it ready for use.

Another task of the Blomberg coordinator is to check the paths and, armed with a pince-nez and a plastic bag, to collect carelessly thrown away rubbish. Danner also spends part of his working time in the office. “It was this versatility that attracted me to the position,” he says. As an Isarwinkler, he has of course always been familiar with the Blomberg - even if his actual “home mountain” is the “Geigastoa”, as he says with a laugh.

Plans are underway to expand the toboggan run on Blomberg

Danner describes his first impressions as Blomberg coordinator as “completely positive”. He was warmly welcomed by everyone on and around the mountain. After the many meetings and conversations to get to know each other, “my head is really spinning,” he says.

And he will still have turbulent times ahead at Blomberg. There will be a drastic innovation in the near future when it comes to toboggan runs. As reported, the Tölz city council has already voted in principle for the upper part of the route between Blomberghaus and the middle station to be expanded so that it can be used safely again. As is well known, this section is currently closed to sledding in winter, but is instead designated as a pure hiking trail and is gritted when there is snow. According to town hall spokeswoman Birte Stahl, plans for the expansion are currently underway. As soon as the exact costs and funding options are known, the city council will have to approve the project again.
