A plan with a collection objective of 8 billion to push on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, focus of investments on strategic macro areas for the growth of the Italian economy, support for the creation of value in the portfolio and centrality of fundraising from private investors. These are the main innovations of Cdp Venture Capital's 2024-2028 Industrial Plan.

The 'Shaping Future' strategy of the SGR, 70% owned by Cdp Equity and 30% by Invitalia, was presented in Milan by the president Anna Lambiase and the CEO and general manager Agostino Scornajenchi. The plan sets the objective of reaching 8 billion euros of resources under management, of which 1 billion raised by third parties, to support the development of Italian innovation through investments in the 7 areas classified as most strategic for the country and by attracting private capital according to the principle of crowding-in, generating an effect of additionality and complementarity within the market.

One billion euros will be used, in particular, in the development of artificial intelligence. The resources will focus on three key areas, with 120 million dedicated to technology transfer, a further 580 million for investments in startups with sectoral applications to strengthen existing players and 300 million destined for mature companies, ready to scale abroad and become the future national champions.

Two pillars of intervention correspond to the strategic guidelines of the new plan. The first concerns support for the Italian venture capital infrastructure through investments in support of new companies in the embryonic phase (so-called pre-seed and seed) and investments in venture capital funds to fuel the medium and long-term growth of the market and the skills to support innovation.

The second instead concerns the stimulus to the growth and maturation of the ecosystem, with direct investments specialized by sector, in the maturation phases (so-called early stage and late stage) to support the development projects of Italian startups in the most strategic for the country which have been identified in Artificial Intelligence & Cybersecurity, AgrifoodTech, SpaceTech, Healthcare & Lifescience, CleanTech, IndustryTech, InfraTech & Mobility.

"The plan we are presenting today is the result of a long analysis of what the industry of tomorrow will be, of how production models and services will change thanks to the new enabling technologies that we are experimenting with today". This was stated by Agostino Scornajenchi, CEO and general manager of Cdp Venture Capital. "Italian innovation - he continued - has solid roots and numerous records in the scientific and technical fields, now it is time to return to playing a leading role in the international economy, recovering vision and competitiveness".
