Two years since their lives stopped. They no longer live. They “manage” daily life. Flavien Bérard's parents are waiting for the investigation into their son's death to move forward. The young man, then aged 27, lost his life in March 2022 after an accident on an oil drilling site in Villemareuil (Seine-et-Marne). A judicial investigation was opened for “manslaughter” at the Meaux court. Since then, nothing. No one has been indicted. “The judicial investigation is still in progress,” sums up laconically the public prosecutor, Jean-Baptiste Bladier. “We are waiting. And the wait is long. And destructive,” sighs Fabienne Bérard, Flavien’s mother.
The accident occurred on the night of March 4 to 5, 2022, around 4 a.m. “It was at the time of the team change. I read that it is often during shifts that workplace accidents occur,” she reveals. Flavien had just finished his service but remained “under observation”. The Rig 101 drilling platform, comprising a 30 m high metal tower, is at work. A metal part with a mass estimated between 18 and 30 kg came loose. She fell from a height of around twenty meters and hit Flavien Bérard's head. “He wore all the safety equipment,” assures his mother. His helmet was cut in two. » A safety device would have been removed from the machine to complete the project faster, explains the mother.
