A 50-year-old fell on Watzmann-Hocheck on Sunday (April 7th). The rescue operation was difficult due to strong winds.
Ramsau near Berchtesgaden - The Ramsau mountain rescue service and the crew of the Traunstein rescue helicopter “Christoph 14” had to rescue a 50-year-old from the Rosenheim district on Sunday afternoon (April 7th). He was dehydrated on the descent from Watzmann-Hocheck and had suffered several falls due to sunstroke and slipped across a snowfield, injuring his ankle and losing a crampons and both poles.

Due to strong gusts of wind, the rescue helicopter was initially unable to fly to the scene of the accident
The helicopter crew, alerted at around 5:15 p.m., found the casualty between Hochstieg and Watzmannhaus, but was only able to drop off the emergency doctor and mountain rescue team at the scene 300 meters away due to the gusts of wind. The rescuers crossed to the patient on foot, examined and cared for him, but were unable to get him into the slipstream to the drop-off point because of the pain.

It was only when there was a brief calm shortly after 6 p.m. that the helicopter pilot was able to fly to the scene of the accident and pick up the patient and emergency doctor. The 50-year-old was then taken to a clinic. Eight mountain rescuers were on duty and on standby until 7:45 p.m.
