The classic cream sauce can be easily adapted to individual preferences and tastes, making it an indispensable part of the kitchen.

The following ingredients are required for classic cream sauce:

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 1 tbsp flour

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste

  • 250 ml vegetable broth

  • 250 ml cream

  • 100 ml milk

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

This is how you can prepare the simple cream sauce:

  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Sauté the onion in it until translucent.

  • Add flour and cook, stirring constantly, until lightly golden brown, about a minute. Add tomato paste and sauté briefly.

  • Deglaze with vegetable broth, cream and milk. Bring the sauce to the boil, stirring constantly, then simmer over reduced heat until it thickens slightly, about five to seven minutes.

  • Season with salt and pepper and add additional spices or herbs as needed.

  • Serve the cream sauce over pasta, vegetables, meat or fish as desired and enjoy!
