Now things happened faster than expected: as a complete surprise to the public, the demolition of the former post office building on Hindenburgstrasse in Bad Tölz began last Saturday.
Bad Tölz - Within a few hours, all that remained of the striking building from 1929 and another building next to it on Tölzer Hindenburgstrasse was a pile of rubble, which is now being gradually removed.
The owner of the area is Aureus Oberland GmbH, based in Gmund and with an office in Bad Tölz. In addition to the two current buildings, the former Schmederer and Niederberger houses on Hindenburgstrasse will also be removed in June. All buildings have been empty for a long time and the post office closed in June 2023.
Historic building on Hindenburgstrasse in Tölz makes room for a supermarket and rooftop bar
Next spring, after appropriate soil investigations, they would like to build an underground car park, after which new buildings will be built. As managing director Kai Maximilian Worbs explained, they will house a full-range grocery store as well as residential and business premises and a so-called rooftop bar.
In connection with the construction work, the city of Bad Tölz will develop the Hindenburgstrasse/Wachterstrasse intersection as a roundabout, as access to the new “Ellbach Quartier” will be provided from there.
