So far, urns at the Türkenfelder Cemetery can only be buried in earth graves. That should change.
Türkenfeld – In the future, the community also wants to offer urn steles, urn tree graves and anonymous burial options. A special offer is to be created for the burial of star children.
At the beginning of the year, the community took over the cemetery from the church. Since then, citizens have repeatedly expressed an urgent desire for new forms of burial with urns, reported Mayor Emanuel Staffler (CSU) at the most recent meeting of the local council. Now two steles, each with 16 grave spaces, are to be purchased and placed in the older part of the cemetery near the war memorial.
Graves under the tree
Urn tree graves will be built in the lower right part of the new cemetery. These are grave sites in the ground that are arranged under a tree and marked by granite slabs.
A family burial is not possible here - unlike in the case of the urn stele. The tree graves also cannot be purchased in advance, otherwise there would be a “run” for the sunniest places, as Staffler had learned from other cemetery administrations. The community wants to plant a new tree in the designated area and create a hedge as a semicircular border. A park bench is already available.
New use for abandoned graves
In addition, anonymous urn graves are to be created for so-called social burials - i.e. those for which the municipality is responsible due to a lack of relatives. Abandoned family graves could be used for this, says Staffler. The gravestone would be sanded down and an appropriate inscription would indicate the anonymous grave site.
Star children - babies who die before, during or shortly after birth - will also have a place in the Türkenfeld cemetery in the future. Unfortunately, there is also demand for this, Staffler reported. What this place will look like is still unclear. The administration and the local council want to develop ideas together.
The Türkenfeld local council unanimously decided on the other measures mentioned. The total costs are expected to be 36,000 euros. These are to be refinanced through the grave fees.
