70% less CO2 emissions! To collect waste, Veolia switches to biofuel in Haute-Garonne

This fleet of 30 trucks will travel nearly 600,000 km this year with this biofuel, supplied by the company Altens. “After the Hautes-Pyrénées which are already equipped with it, our objective is to switch to biofuel 40% of our truck fleet in the Occitanie and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions by the end of 2024,” indicates Sophie Delage, director of Veolia Recycling & Waste Recovery South-West region.

Since the beginning of February, all Veolia Recyclage et Valorisation collection trucks circulating in Haute-Garonne have run on biofuel, recycled organic waste. Nearly 30 vehicles collecting residual and recyclable waste from communities and businesses in the department have abandoned diesel to use fuel from the recycling of used food oils and animal fats.

These trucks are responsible in particular for collecting household waste from residents of the towns of Cugnaux and Villeneuve-Tolosane, south of the Pink City, for the benefit of Toulouse Métropole. The fleet also covers public establishments such as the Toulouse University Hospital.
