Accidents at work are a "great social plague" which "requires maximum unity among all political, institutional and social subjects and does not allow demagogic, populist and incendiary tones that divide people and irresponsibly set workers against each other". The general secretary of the CISL, Luigi Sbarra, said this while commenting on the declarations of the leader of the CGIL, Maurizio Landini on the CISL that he had decided not to strike in the face of the deaths in Suviana.
"Landini's sudden exit, said Sbarra, does not deserve comment. Perhaps Maurizio is distracted, I would like to remind him that just yesterday the CISL with its structures, in the immediate aftermath of the events connected to the Suviana tragedy, proclaimed 4 hours of national strike in the Enel group accompanied by an identical mobilization in all the private categories of the province of Bologna and by a demonstration of workers in front of the Enel headquarters. On the topic of safety in the workplace - he added - since February we have been holding, alone, hundreds of meetings in companies, initiatives across territories and regions, and on Saturday 13 April a national demonstration will take place in Rome with 5 thousand CISL delegates"
