Only a few days after a first blockade, around ten students have again blocked part of the University of Bordeaux-Montaigne, on the university campus of Pessac (Gironde), since April 9. An action claimed as a reaction to the management of cases of gender-based and sexual violence by the establishment. The philosopher Barbara Stiegler, professor at the university, notably accuses one of her colleagues of rape.
The management of this matter by the administration is highly criticized by certain students.
“For several weeks, our establishment has been going through unprecedented events which are disrupting not only the democratic process to renew our governance bodies, but also the proper functioning of the establishment
,” explains Lionel Larré, president of the university, in a message to the student community, April 9.
Buildings closed “until further notice”
The university specifies that after
“an initial blockade of the Rosa Bonheur building, students and staff were expelled from their rooms and offices in the Flora Tristan building”
. This situation does not allow the establishment to ensure
“the safety of people and buildings”
, the meeting of the board of directors scheduled for April 11 is postponed. Many buildings, lecture halls and the Rigoberta Menchú university library are also closing their doors
“until further notice”

This situation occurring less than a month before the end of the semester for certain courses (May 3 and May 24), it led the university to have to take specific measures to ensure the continuity of teaching. President Lionel Larré
“deplores this situation and solemnly appeals for serenity on campus and the responsibilities of each and every person”
, so that teaching and exams at the end of the semester can still take place in good conditions. .
