Highlights: European Economy Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni said there was "appreciation" for Italy within the EU executive. He especially praised the prudence in the handling of the Superbonus scheme to incentivize energy-efficient building renovations. He also said it was up to national governments to decide what to put in their DEF economic blueprints, after Rome this week approved a document that was low on detail about its plans. "The priority for us is what will happen in the summer and autumn with the medium-term plans," he said. The European Commission is the European Union's executive branch. It has the power to impose sanctions on countries that do not comply with EU rules and regulations, and can seek compensation for losses caused by breaches of the rules. The Commission can also impose fines on countries who do not abide by the rules, or seek compensation from the European Court of Justice for breaches of EU rules. European Economy Commissioner PaoloGentiloni said Thursday that there was "appreciation" for Italy within the EU executive "for the prudence with which decisions are taken" on budget policy. He especially praised the prudence in the handling of the Superbonus scheme to incentivize energy-efficient building renovations, which was approved by a previous administration in 2020 and has cost the State so far around 122 billion euros, seriously limiting the current government's room for manoeuvre. He also said it was up to national governments to decide what to put in their DEF economic blueprints, after Rome this week approved a document that was low on detail about its plans.

"The priority for us is what will happen in the summer and autumn with the medium-term plans," Gentiloni said.
