Munich - For Munich residents, the Herzkasperl tent is a matter of the heart. Because the impending end to the traditional business at the Oidn Wiesn concerns our readers, numerous letters have reached the editorial team, which primarily express regret if the Herzkasperl tent disappears. A petition was even started. Of course, the calls also reached the town hall. The SPD now wants to draw up new rules so that the circus surrounding the tents will come to an end at least next year.

As reported, the Herzkasperl tent could not be at the Oidn Wiesn this year. When assessed according to the city's catalog of points, landlord Beppi Bachmaier's cultural tent performed worse than a competitor. According to reports, it is Peter Schöniger, the host of the Festhalle Bayernland at the spring festival. He is said to have applied for the Wiesn and the Oide Wiesn. The city council will probably decide on May 7th whether the restaurateur will be awarded the contract for the historic folk festival.
The town hall SPD now wants to start with the evaluation system “in order to do even better justice to the special character of the Oidn Wiesn in the future,” says city councilor Klaus Peter Rupp. In an application, the Department of Labor and Economic Affairs is asked to revise the criteria for applying for the festival tents at the Oidn Wiesn. By the start of the application phase for the Oide Wiesn 2025, a concept should be presented to the city council that does better justice to the special character.

The city evaluates according to 13 criteria, including up to eleven points for reliability, technical standards, ecological aspects or attractiveness. Under the latter keyword there are points for the cultural program. If the SPD has its way, this should be given greater weight than ecology and could be the deciding factor in the evaluation. In addition, the administration should examine whether external expertise can be brought in for the evaluation in the future.
So far, the cultural department has awarded points for the cultural program. “Cultural and ecological aspects must be in a more appropriate relationship,” says Rupp. Mayor Dieter Reiter: “Since the Oide Wiesn is, so to speak, a project close to my heart and we have consciously placed greater emphasis on tradition and cultural offerings there, I certainly welcome it if people are considering whether the cultural offering should be given even greater weight in the future.”
