Before dying in prison Alexei Navalny wrote a memoir which will be published in the autumn. Titled 'Patriot', the book will be published in the US by Knopf on October 22. In the volume Navalny tells his story in his words: "it is a testament to his life, but also to his unwavering commitment to fighting the dictatorship", said Navalny's wife, Yulia Navalnaya.
Navalny's memoir will be released worldwide at the same time and in Italy it will be published by Mondadori. In the United States the first announced print run is 500,000 copies. Navalny began writing Patriot in 2020, shortly after he was poisoned. With great detail, which also includes unpublished letters from prison, the dissident recounts his political career, the various attempts on his life and that of the people closest to him, and the incessant campaign that he and his team conducted against a increasingly dictatorial regime. "This book is a testimony not only to Alexei's life, but also to his unwavering commitment to the fight against dictatorship, a fight to which he sacrificed everything, including his life. The book tells the whole story of his life: his youth, the moment in which he felt the need to dedicate himself to activism, his marriage and family, his commitment to the cause of democracy and freedom in Russia that he saw himself opposed by a global superpower determined to silence him. Navalny was convinced that it was not possible to resist change, that change would come anyway and these pages clearly express his message. Written with the passion, insight, frankness and courage for which Navalny was acclaimed, Patriot is his final letter to the world. For Mondadori the book will be released in hardcover, ebook and audiobook editions.
