Truck accidents keep happening: Is the junction at Pfanni Clock being rebuilt?

Highlights: A truck has damaged the fence of the adjacent property when turning from Müllerstrasse into Münchener Strasse. The municipality is now considering converting the junction area. This could also have consequences for the well-known Pfanni watch. The blue Pfanni clock has been standing on its small island in the middle of the junction to Müllerstraße for decades. It owes its name to the company of the same name, which once had built the clock for advertising purposes. The town hall boss wants to discuss with the local council what a solution could look like - but first in a non-public meeting. Possible options include removing them completely or moving them to create a “sensible street entrance,” says Mayor Peter Ostenrieder. The issue was discussed in the department heads' meeting just this week after residents had contacted the community. Many people probably feel like the mayor of Peiting: “Actually, no one really knows how to drive there.”

This is not the first time that a truck has damaged the fence of the adjacent property when turning from Müllerstrasse into Münchener Strasse. The municipality is now considering converting the junction area. This could also have consequences for the well-known Pfanni watch.

Peiting - Anyone who regularly drives along Münchener Straße in Peiting will be familiar with it: the blue Pfanni clock has been standing on its small island in the middle of the junction to Müllerstraße for decades. It owes its name to the company of the same name, which it once had built for advertising purposes.

However, some truck drivers may not have very fond memories of the blue advertising clock. In the past, trucks have repeatedly made unpleasant contact with the fence of the adjacent property when turning. It only recently crashed again, says Reinhard Pantke. The former market builder immediately noticed the “murderous damage”. From his point of view, the problem is obvious. When the island with the clock was built, there were no trucks of the size that are on the roads today. Pantke knows that turning from Müllerstrasse towards the roundabout is a challenge, especially for the long car transporters that regularly drive there. “They often simply can’t make the curve.” With corresponding consequences for the neighboring fence.

For the Peitinger it is clear: a solution has to be found here, the situation cannot remain like this, emphasizes the former market builder, who turned to the local newspaper to draw attention to the problem. “Actually, instead of a clock, there should be a crossing aid for pedestrians,” because they also often find it difficult to cross the wide street at this point. The market town would be responsible for a corresponding conversion. But despite the events, unfortunately nothing has happened so far, criticizes Pantke.

The local council discusses possible solutions

But now there could be some movement in the matter. As Mayor Peter Ostenrieder confirmed when asked by the local newspaper, the issue was discussed in the department heads' meeting just this week after residents had contacted the community. As early as next Tuesday, the town hall boss wants to discuss with the local council what a solution could look like - but first in a non-public meeting. This will also address the question of how to handle the Pfanni watch. Possible options include removing them completely or moving them to create a “sensible street entrance,” says Ostenrieder.

Not only trucks but also drivers would be happy about one. Ultimately, the junction in its current form regularly causes irritation among road users. Around the island to the right or would it be better to pass it to the left? Many people probably feel like the mayor of Peiting: “Actually, no one really knows how to drive there.”
