2024-04-12T01:30:55.199Z

Highlights: The Bar Association of the City of Buenos Aires questions the nomination of Ariel Lijo for the Supreme Court of Justice. In a letter sent to the Council of the Judiciary, the lawyers demand access to the cases involving the federal judge. They also require "in light of the records that exist there, an audit on the actions of Judge Julián Ercolini in that case" that focuses on his colleague in the Comodoro Py courts. The letter recalls that the case that originated Carrió's complaint is a "complaint of illicit association" that "was ignored in the investigation" by the court in charge of the case. "In this report, severe suspicions and inconsistencies would be raised with an eye on the applicant," the Bar Association says in its letter to the highest court's president. "This College denounced these events," they reproached the Judiciary. "It is public knowledge that a large number of civil society entities and groups, including this College, have severely objected to the new nomination of the aforementioned judge"

It was made by the Bar Association of the City of Buenos Aires. It is addressed to the president of the highest court Horacio Rosatti, for his role in front of the Council of the Judiciary. It questions that "there are complaints" against the judge that "have not merited any processing" .

The criticism of Ariel Lijo's nomination for the Supreme Court of Justice

by Javier Milei

added another instance of questioning this Thursday. It was when the

Bar Association of the City

of Buenos Aires

turned to the Council of the Judiciary

to highlight that "there are

complaints

" against the controversial federal judge that "

have not merited any processing

."

The claim was by letter, sent to the authority of the highest court,

Horacio Rosatti

, but in his role as head of the judicial oversight body. It bears the signature of Alberto Garay, president of the Buenos Aires Bar Association.

"

At stake is the people's right to information

regarding the candidate's background contained in a judicial file whose records

must be known by society

and the authorities and the

transparency

of judicial and administrative actions," Garay reproached Lijo and the research that points to it.

In that sense, the CABA Bar Association highlighted its "

surprise

" because "there are complaints against Dr. Lijo that have not merited any processing." "One of them is from the year 2023 (file 107/2023) and the other is from the current year (35/2024)," they pointed out, in reference to complaints made against the judge by

Elisa Carrió and the Civic Coalition

.

The entity of Buenos Aires lawyers had already issued its public position of criticism about Lijo and his nomination for the Supreme Court. "It is public knowledge that a large number of

civil society

entities and groups , including this College,

have severely objected to the new nomination

of the aforementioned judge for various reasons," they recalled.

In the text sent to the Judiciary, the lawyers request access to the

cases involving the federal judge

and demand "

urgent processing of the complaints

made against the aforementioned magistrate."

And they recalled a specific one, presented by the entity: "In 2016, with the intervention of that Council, this College carried out an audit in the federal courts in order to

scrutinize how they processed corruption cases

involving public officials. As a consequence of that task and despite the obstacles that stood in the way of our work, it was possible to establish - among other things - that

the court in charge of Dr. Ariel Lijo presented irregularities

in the processing of

more than 20 cases

." "This College denounced these events," they reproached the Judiciary.

They also require "in light of the records that exist there,

an audit

be arranged on the actions of Judge Julián Ercolini in that case" that focuses on his colleague in the Comodoro Py courts.

The letter recalls that the case that originated Carrió is a "complaint of illicit association" that "

involved Judge Lijo , among others", and that "according to reports,

a report presented in the case by the UIF

was ignored in the investigation

" .

"In this report , severe suspicions and financial inconsistencies

of the aforementioned applicant would be raised

," they highlighted with an eye on Lijo and to know the details to be contrasted when presenting challenges to his background before the application to fill the vacancy left by the judge. Elena Highton of Nolasco upon retirement.
