Franz Multerer, board member of the Lechgau Traditional Costume Association, was able to announce some very good news at the spring meeting: Lechgau has grown by around 200 members in the past ten years.
Lechgau
- “This is currently against the trend, because overall the number of members of traditional costume clubs in Bavaria is declining,” says Multerer. And that despite the fact that with the dissolution of the “Almrausch” Neu-Ulm club, Lechgau lost an entire club.

Another topic: The 98th Lechgau Traditional Costume Festival this year in Landsberg is also intended to counteract the Bavaria-wide trend. Planning is in full swing and invitations have been sent to 35 traditional costume clubs. There will be one change at the Gaufest this year: compensation for the bands has been abolished. Previously, clubs that had a band with them received five euros per musician from the host club, capped at a maximum of 75 euros for church parades and a maximum of 150 euros for pageants.
Musicians' compensation is no longer applicable, funding is applied for, the Trachtler newspaper is discontinued
In order to relieve the burden on the traditional costume clubs that organize a local festival, this payment is now no longer being made. The 103 delegates present at the meeting decided this with ten votes against. Speaking of money: Multerer and district youth leader Georg Multerer once again implored the clubs to take advantage of the funding that is available for the traditional costume clubs. “Otherwise the funds will be withdrawn at some point when nobody seems to need them,” both warned.
There was bad news from the “Heimat- und Trachtenbote” (HTB), the traditional newspaper. Since subscription numbers are still declining, this will probably be discontinued at the end of the year. After 97 years. “If that really happens, you may have to revise your club statutes. Because some people still state that meetings or similar things have to be announced via this medium,” Multerer suggested to the clubs.
Markus Burmberger awarded
The only honor at the district meeting was completely in accordance with the statutes: Markus Burmberger from the “Fuchsbergler” Stoffen traditional costume association was awarded the Silver District Medal of Honor. Burmberger was second for five years and first for ten years in his club. He also held the position of second treasurer for three years and has been the first treasurer of the “Fuchsbergler” since 2012.

At the end of the spring district meeting it became emotional again: Kathrin Koch, former deputy chairwoman of the “Almrausch” Neu-Ulm traditional costume association, officially said goodbye to Lechgau and its delegates. With a cracking voice, she thanked us for the decades of friendship and the many wonderful experiences we shared.
Minutes of applause and a few tears
The minutes of applause that followed gave the impression that the delegates present were also very touched and perhaps shed a tear or two.
