There was a lot going on at Sylvenstein over the past weekends. The route from Lenggries to Vorderriß is becoming increasingly popular in the motorcycle scene. There are problems with speeders and posers.

Lenggries – The first beautiful weekends of the season attracted numerous bikers to the streets in the Tölzer Land. Since one of the most popular cruiser routes, the Kesselberg, is closed to uphill motorcyclists every day from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the summer months (we reported), the winding route from Lenggries over the Sylvenstein and to Vorderriß seems to be becoming a hotspot in the scene . Over the past two weekends there were four motorcycle accidents on this route with six people injured. The Arbeiterwohlfahrt, which runs a children's holiday home with 38 places in Vorderriß, is a thorn in the side of the many bikers, but especially the ones who drive too fast.

“It was extreme the last few weekends”: Concern about motorcycle posers at Sylvenstein

Camilla Plöckl, chairwoman of the AWO district association, is concerned: “The holiday home is right on the B307. “More and more motorcyclists are racing past there now,” she says. “The district office has already put up a warning sign, but when there are group changes, the danger from speeders is immense.” In the worst case scenario, an accident could be “life-threatening,” she warns. “The last few weekends it was extreme how busy there was.” There would also be some who drive sensibly, “but unfortunately there are once again a lot of black sheep among the bikers.” Noise is another problem.

Plöckl recently drove to the holiday home by car for work. “I was totally scared because I thought a person was lying next to the road and an accident had happened.” However, upon closer inspection, she quickly realized that it was a motorcyclist lying next to the road with his camera to photograph someone else driving their machine at high speeds. “This is the latest trend now. Just like on the Kesselberg in the show curve, photos and videos are now being taken of the bikers shooting through the curves, some of them lying horizontally on the ground.”

Police do not want to derive any trend from the recent incidents

Camilla Plöckl sees a direct connection here with the closure period on Kesselberg. “Since the regulation came into effect again, the situation at Sylvenstein has deteriorated dramatically,” she emphasizes. “I have to go to the house more often for work, and privately I would no longer drive towards Vorderriß on nice days. Whenever I'm on the route, I'm afraid of an accident with a motorcyclist.” The situation is also precarious for cyclists. “After all, there is no cycle path there. The whole thing is also a great danger for other road users.”

When asked by our newspaper, Lars Werner from the Tölz police station said: “We currently have the impression that the focus is shifting slightly from the Kesselberg to the Sylvenstein.” The police were on site to record the accidents. “And there was a lot going on there too,” he confirms. However, it is still too early to draw final conclusions at this point. “It was the first beautiful days of the season, there’s always something going on.”

There is currently no evidence of an increase in the number of accidents - even after the most recent accidents. “You have to continue to monitor the situation.” According to Werner, comparative statistics only make sense towards the end of the season. “But we have the issue on our radar.” In concrete terms, this means: “The police are increasingly on site and are also carrying out checks.”

At Sylvenstein, a motorbike speeder was recently speeding at over 100 km/h

Roman Gold, head of the motorcycle control group, says: “Even before the Kesselberg closure, the Sylvenstein was a hotspot for both motorcyclists and the car poser scene. But of course this has increased significantly since then.” In general, we also have to see that the number of motorcyclists is increasing sharply. “There have never been so many motorcycles in Bavaria before. The number of registrations is currently over one million.”

Looking at the number of accidents at Sylvenstein and the surrounding area, Gold also says that one cannot yet speak of an accident hotspot, but at the same time he also makes it clear: “It's crazy what's going on there.” The police regularly carry out keystone checks there Speed measurements. “There are some horrendous excesses, recently someone was speeding at 100 km/h too much on the country road.”
